English beef and lamb was showcased to a group of industry professionals, including buyers, food journalists and butchers, from Central Europe during a three-day mission to the UK hosted by EBLEX and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI). The event had been organised to coincide with the Liverpool International Festival of Business.
The mission included farm visits to highlight production methods and genetic improvements and gave the delegates from Poland and Slovakia an opportunity to meet exporters to establish potential trade relationships. A gala dinner hosted by UKTI at Knowsley Hall also featured lamb on the menu developed by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.
Jonathan Eckley, EBLEX export marketing executive, said: “Our rain-fed pasture system makes us one of the most efficient places in the world to produce succulent and tender beef and lamb. Our visitors were able to sample our beef and lamb during their visit and establish key contacts, which will hopefully pay dividends for our exporters in supplying top end retailers and the valuable foodservice sector.
“The mission also coincided with the Liverpool International Festival of Business food and drink summit, concluding with the gala dinner. Not only were delegates able to sample our great produce, but we were also able to showcase the efficiency of our production and the invaluable role our farmers play as custodians of our countryside.”
