Tesco has launched what it says to be the UK’s first home slider kit, as it captures the American trend in time for the British barbecue season.

Sliders, or bite-sized hamburgers, are said to already be popular as snacks in restaurant and bars, and the multiple retailer is now hoping make them a popular option in the home as well.

Tesco burger buying manager Sophie Yost said: “Sliders are one of the hottest snacking trends in restaurants, gastro pubs and bars right now.

“But we think customers would love the chance to try them at home, both at BBQs and as luxury snacks or meals for youngsters bringing the restaurant experience into homes for the first time.

“Not only are they perfect as party food but we think they will be really popular at BBQs this summer.”

At a cost of £5, the slider kit will provide consumers with:

  • British pulled pork marinated in a blend of herbs and spices and a maple chilli sauce
  • Three mini British beef steak burgers made, seasoned with sea salt and black pepper
  • Three cuts of oak-smoked Cheddar cheese
  • Six mini brioche rolls

Yost continued: “We’re always looking to help customers and these slider kits are really easy to assemble at home.

“If this trial is a success then we will look at including different meats and flavourings in the range.”
