The Pig Industry Scholarship runs in conjunction with Harper Adams University.

The scheme runs in conjunction with Harper Adams University and offers a scholarship and placement opportunity to FdSc and BSc students. It was set up in 2013.

To promote the industry, a scholarship fair was held at the university in October where students had the chance to meet companies for the first time and find out what opportunities were availalbe.

Lizzie Wilson, NPA policy services officer said: “Students come to the fair knowing all about the scheme and were enthusiastic about finding out more from the companies.”

The three inaugural 2013 scholars are now back studying in their final year, with a further five from 2014 are undertaking their placement this year.

Samantha Bowsher, AHDB pork skills development coordinator explained: “The scholarship opportunities provide students with a taste of the industry and a chance to build connections. It’s great to see two of our scholars rejoining their sponsoring company as graduates next year.”
