Pork product winners in the East Midlands
With 341 products from 51 butchers entered into the penultimate leg of the Regional Pork Product Excellence Awards last week, the East Midlands Roadshow has been hailed a great success.
Lakings of Louth from Lincolnshire triumphed in the ‘Speciality Cold Eating Pork Pie’ category and went on to win the ‘Overall Champion’ title for the East Midlands with its ‘Harvest Pie’ – a combination of fresh sausage meat, sliced apple, local pickle and caramelised onion.

“We developed the Harvest Pie especially for the competition by taking an existing Lincolnshire sausage pie recipe and adding to it. It contains sliced apple, local pickle caramelised onion and has an attractive lattice top made from short crust pastry. The pork is from local suppliers, which we use to make the sausage meat by adding seasoning from a recipe that is several generations old. Lakings of Louth has been around since 1908 so we can draw on many years of expertise to get our products exactly right!”
