QMS launches Meat the Facts for children
A new children’s publication aimed at improving the understanding of children about red meat (beef, lamb and pork) has been launched by Quality Meat Scotland.
Bearsden Primary School pupils helped to launch the new QMS “Meat the Facts” booklet.
Pupils from Bearsden Primary School joined Isobel-Anne Johnston on Quality Meat Scotland’s stand to celebrate the launch of the new booklet at the recent Food and Farming Day at Luss Estate, organised by the Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET).
The event at Duchlage Farm saw more than 280 school children take part in the two day event aimed at improving their understanding of food production and agriculture.
Youngsters from schools including Arrochar, Cardross, Clydemuir, Colgrain, Garelochhead, Hermitage, Luss and Rhu primary schools also attended the event, sponsored by the Scottish Government Food & Drink Industry Division.
Jennifer Robertson, Health and Education Co-ordinator with QMS, said the new booklet aimed to give children an insight into some of the facts which the Scottish meat industry takes great pride in.
“The publication combines a quirky, colourful style with easily absorbed information about the production of red meat in Scotland, including the priority the industry places on animal health and welfare and the great environmental role played by our farmers,” said Mrs Robertson.
“The pocket-sized booklet is also full of interesting stats – such as the fact that our industry is responsible for 50,000 jobs in Scotland and contributes a massive £2.1 billion to the Scottish economy.”
