Service to Sausages award for McDonald’s Restaurants

McDonald’s Restaurants has received a special ‘Services To Sausages’ award in recognition of its support for pig farmers. The award was presented to Jill MacDonald, president and chief executive officer for the Northern Europe division of McDonald’s.

Jill MacDonald, president and chief executive officer for the Northern Europe division of McDonald’s is presented with the special award by Minister, David Heath.

Accepting the award, Jill said: “I’m absolutely delighted to receive this award on behalf of McDonald’s Restaurants. We are proud to support responsible farmers and we ensure that we source quality assured pork for our sausages.

“It is our number one priority to serve safe, quality food that our customers can trust. We believe that food safety and quality start on the farm, which is why we put the McDonald’s Agriculture Assurance Programme (MAPP) in place to ensure that all the ingredients we use are grown and reared in an environmentally responsible way.

“Provenance is extremely important to our customers – quite rightly, they care about what goes into their food and where it comes from. We take every opportunity to provide them with the reassurance they seek, we’re open and transparent about our sourcing policy, providing information both in store and on our website.”

BPEX foodservice trade manager, Tony Goodger, said: “McDonald’s is thoroughly deserving of this special award, having supported agriculture – and in particular pig farmers – for over 20 years. BPEX has been encouraging foodservice businesses to provide customers with information about the origin of their meat for many years now. McDonald’s has led the way in that, setting a benchmark for others to follow. We congratulate them for winning this award and on behalf of English pig farmers, we thank them for their support.”
