The company say that the move is in direct response to increasing demand from the regional hospitality sector.

“We are now supplying more hotels, restaurants, pubs and cafes across Skipton and the Yorkshire Dales, and over into West Craven, Wharfedale and Harrogate,” explained owner and director Simon Barker.

“It’s an expanding area of the business and with further growth anticipated, we have taken over an adjoining unit which is being used as a drop-in facility for wholesale customers, especially those who might be running out of beef, lamb or pork and require immediate supply.”

Mr Barker, from Hampsthwaite, Harrogate, is now into his fourth year at the helm since taking over 100% control of the Stanforths butchery business.

Its fully EC-registered meat production unit at the mart has achieved major growth and now employs a 13-strong team.

The business also offers a private cutting service for local farmers and farm shops, as well as supplying other regional retail butchers.

Stanforths Butchers sources all its meat from Yorkshire – prime beef and lamb through Skipton Auction Mart and prime pigs, 60 per week, from Ashford Bros, of Bedale, as well as purchasing from Wharfedale Farmers Auction Mart in Otley.

The business also produces all its own sausages, bacon and gammon.
