ABP begins ‘process butcher’ trailblazer apprenticeships

ABP UK is showing its support for the Level 2 Butchery Standard by starting 29 new apprentices on the Butchery Trailblazer’s Process Butcher pathway at five of its sites across the country.

The apprentices will learn both traditional butchery skills as well as how to work in a production scale environment at ABP’s manufacturing sites in Shrewsbury, York, Ellesmere, Langport and Guildford.

The Process pathway will cover a wide range of skills, from precision cutting and boning to customer specification, estimating saleable yield and predictive costings to understanding the audit and inspection process.

Mandy Thompson, ABP’s People Change talent manager, commented: “Learning is a lifelong process and something ABP is dedicated to supporting. As a modern food business we always aim to be at the very top of our game. Training our people to high standards is a vital part of achieving that.

“We believe that the Trailblazer Apprenticeship will give all our apprentices both the tools and the motivation to progress through the business.”

Apprentices will be required to demonstrate their skills through independent end point assessments. All of ABP’s 29 apprentices are expected to complete their apprenticeships by spring 2018.
