The Welsh Country Foods plant at Gaerwen could be saved by a management buyout, saving up to 50-70 jobs in the slaughterhouse and boning department.

Site director, Eddie Ennis told the BBC that Vion was considering the offer: “I’ve made a formal offer that’s being looked upon in a good way because they would like to support a management buyout."

Vion’s 90-day consultation with staff at the plant ends in April and should a buyer not be found the plant would close with the loss of 350 jobs. This followed Asda’s decision to terminate its contract with the company.
