Hybu Cig Cymru - Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) will spotlight PGI Welsh Lamb and PGI Welsh Beef in the American market at the New York Summer Fancy Food Show.
Alongside Welsh Government, HCC will be leading representatives from Dunbia and Kepak at the New York Summer Fancy Food Show between Sunday 29th June and Tuesday 1st July. As well as serving samples and providing cooking demonstrations, HCC and Welsh exporters will take part in meetings and discussions in order to develop trade and business relationships.
Additionally, HCC and Welsh Government will be hosting a ‘Celebration of Welsh Lamb’ exclusive event for buyers, importers, chefs and VIPs at the British Consulate in New York City. Deputy Trade Commissioner for North America, Alan Gogbashian, will join the exclusive celebration event.
HCC’s market development lead, Jason Craig, commented: “Since the American market reopened several years ago, HCC has been working to develop trade in the market. America is a market with large potential, and we have seen small but significant growth in terms of trade volumes over the last couple of years.”

HCC highlighted that the USA is a “key export target” market for the Welsh red meat sector and has been estimated to be worth millions for the industry in the long term. The USA is the world’s largest consumer of beef and consumption of lamb is growing.
The market reopened to UK beef producers and exporters in 2020, with lamb following in 2022 after a two-decade ban was lifted.
Craig continued: “We’ll be focusing on Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef’s exceptional quality whilst in New York and are looking forward to highlighting their PGI status as well as the natural and sustainable production methods employed by Welsh farmers and the wider supply chain.
