2 Sisters Food Group owner and chief executive, Ranjit Singh Boparan, has been called to give evidence before a parliamentary inquiry, following last month’s allegations of food safety breaches at the company’s West Bromwich plants.
The Environment Food and Rural Affairs Committee said that the short inquiry will be held on 25th October and will look into the role and performance of the regulatory and accreditation bodies in maintaining food standards and food safety.
It will also look into the “potential ramifications of the allegations made against 2 Sisters for the poultry sector and the wider food chain”.
Along with Boparan, the committee has also summoned the Food Standards Agency, the British Poultry Council and Assured Food Standards, which manages the Red Tractor logo.
2 Sisters Food Group has confirmed that Boparan has been called to give evidence at the inquiry, but refused to add anything further at this stage.
Food Standards Agency has also declined to comment.
