At the start of Great British Beef Week (21st-27th April 2013) Ladies in Beef (LIB) reports that Asda has agreed to support its attempt to break the Guinness World Record® for the Largest Simultaneous Roast Dinner.
The group of female beef farmers plans to smash the current Guinness World Record®¹ by serving Red Tractor beef to around 2,000 participants at the Bath and West Showground on Thursday 10th October.
As well as breaking the record and promoting Red Tractor quality assured British beef, the ladies want to use the event to raise funds for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (R.A.B.I.). The charity provides relief for farming families in times of difficulty and relies on the support of public donations and fundraising events.
Ladies in Beef co-founder, Minette Batters, said: “We are very excited about our Guinness World Record® attempt and extremely grateful for Asda’s backing, without which we couldn’t have gone ahead. Organising an event of this size is no easy feat and it will take from now until October to ensure that we have everything in place to meet the strict criteria set out by Guinness World Records®. But we’re confident that we can achieve it and secure a place in record breaking history for Ladies in Beef and Asda.
“Asda is the main sponsor, but there will be additional sponsorship opportunities available - and we’ll also be selling tables at the event in order raise as much money as possible for R.A.B.I. We’ll make further announcements on that in due course.”
R.A.B.I. chief executive, Paul Burrows, said: “This is fantastic news for R.A.B.I. The Guinness World Record® attempt will be one of the most high profile events that the charity has ever been associated with and that will invariably help to increase awareness of the work that we do to support farming families, as well as raise much needed funds. We wish Ladies in Beef every success with their attempt.”
¹ The current Guinness World Record® attempt for the Largest Simultaneous Roast Dinner was achieved by 1,632 participants in an event organised by the East of England Agricultural Society at the East of England Showground in Peterborough, on 22nd February 2009.
