Through its weekly supply and provision of surplus product, Avara Foods has donated the equivalent of one million meals to hunger and food waste charity, FareShare.
Avara said it has been a long-term supporter of FareShare, with both its predecessors, Faccenda Foods and Cargill UK’s fresh poultry business, supplying the charity before Avara was formed in a joint venture in 2018.
FareShare takes delivery of good-to-eat and surplus food which is unsold or unwanted by the food industry, and through its regional warehouses, redistributes it among a network of 10,500 charities and community groups.
Avara’s work with Fareshare is part of the company’s broader responsible business agenda, ‘For Good’.
People and communications director, Andrew Brodie, commented: “FareShare provides an indispensable service to communities up and down the country, so working with them to provide wholesome nutritious food is a great way to support their mission, our purpose and help thousands of people in need." He added: "Reaching one million meals is a milestone that we’re all exceptionally proud of."
