Avara Foods has revealed plans to shut its Abergavenny factory as a result of post-pandemic rising costs.
For its workforce the announcement means 400 jobs at risk.
The Monmouthshire plant supplies foodservice and major retailers with both chicken and turkey meat.
A company spokesperson for Avara told the BBC: “Regretfully this process identified that volumes could be processed more efficiently in other operations and with lower capital investment.
“This has resulted in the proposal to close the Abergavenny site.
“This difficult decision has not been taken lightly and in no way reflects on the hard-working colleagues.”
