A taste bud tantalising ‘Mum’s Sunday Lunch Spectacular Burger’ landed a national cooking title for a budding chef in an EBLEX-backed competition.
The culinary creation, by Essex-based Jenny Long, was named EBLEX’s Simply beef and lamb Battle of the Burgers champion 2013 at a national cook-off in London, judged by former JLS boy band member JB Gill.
Her recipe beat seven other finalists vying for the prestigious accolade and was cooked in front of JB and a panel of expert burger connoisseurs, who judged the recipes live and decided on the winner the same day.
JB said: “It just goes to show with some innovative thinking and novel ideas you can turn a simple burger into a culinary feast. It’s great to be involved with Simply beef and lamb and, getting into the farming industry myself this year, I’m also learning more and more every day about just how important it is to cook with good quality produce by looking for a quality mark.”
Rebecca Miah, EBLEX marketing communication manager, said: “By creating your own homemade burgers you can make this simple dish so much more exciting and also get peace of mind by knowing exactly what’s going into it.”
The competition forms part of EBLEX’s consumer marketing campaign to support sales of quality assured beef and lamb.
Burger enthusiasts looking for inspiration for their cooking as the BBQ season continues into September can go to www.simplybeefandlamb.co.uk to find JB’s own batch of ‘Battle of the Burgers’ recipes.
