Beef and chicken volume growth has slowed, the latest Meat, Fish and Poultry (MFP) figures from Kantar Worldpanel for the 12 weeks ending 29th January has revealed.
According to the market update from MFP, beef and chicken volume growth has slowed due to smaller baskets and lower prices in the market.
According to Nathan Ward, business unit director for MFP, roasting beef has seen a strong decline year on year, especially over the Christmas period due to there being less promotional investment.
Coming into 2017, although mince and steaks are keeping volume buoyant, they are both under pressure.
Joints and steaks of lamb, meanwhile, are becoming more and more expensive, causing the meat to suffer, particularly compared to other proteins in the competitive meal set for those cuts.
Fresh chicken, however, continues to see a strong performance, with around 460,000 more shoppers helping to bring back value growth through breast, leg and roasting birds.
