Taylor’s Family Butchers in Scunthorpe has taken inspiration from supermarket giant Morrisons by producing super-sized sausage rolls.
Morrisons announced the creation of its new foot-long sausage roll at the beginning of August, claiming it to be the first of its size and weight in the UK.
Taylor’s Family Butchers, which has just celebrated its one year anniversary, trialled its own foot-long sausage roll last week. And the success of sales so far means the huge savoury snack will remain a permanent fixture in the shop’s overall product offering.
“We’ve sold over 500 so far and we’ve only been selling a week,” said shop owner, Ashley Taylor.
He told Meat Management that the new sausage roll has been made partly to encourage more young people to come into the butcher’s shop.
“Butchery can seem like a dying trade and we want more people to come in and try our products. We saw that Morrisons had launched its foot-long sausage roll and thought, we can beat that!”
Taylor’s Family Butchers’ foot-long sausage roll is made from fresh produce and costs £2 a go.
The enterprise has gone from three to 15 staff members in its first year of opening, and Ashley sees the business only increasing in size in the future.
