The Butchery Employer Trailblazer Group (BETG) has appointed a new chair, and for the first time, a vice-chair, to take forward all three meat industry apprenticeships: Level 2 Butcher, Level 3 Advanced Butcher and the Level 2 Abattoir Worker.
Darren Andrew, operations director at the Preston site of Cranswick PLC, will chair the group alongside David Lishman, owner of Lishman’s of Ilkley, who takes up the vice-chair role.
Andrew brings with him 30 years’ experience in the food processing industry, including a decade in operational director roles. He has also taken a leading role in the early adoption of the Process Butcher apprenticeship within Cranswick.
Lishman has run multi-award-winning butchers, Lishman’s of Ilkley, for 35 years, during which time he has also captained the ‘British Beefeaters’ team of butchers in the World Butchers Challenge competition.
Terry Fennell, chief executive of FDQ, the end-point assessment organisation which provides secretariat services for the BETG, said: “Darren and David each have a deep understanding of their respective sectors and a shared interest in the value that apprenticeships bring to the meat industry as a whole. They really are the ‘dream ticket’ for the BETG and I’m confident the apprenticeships will thrive under their stewardship.”
