Trade organisations and those across the wider meat sector have voiced their excitement for the upcoming Women in Meat Awards online ceremony, which is set to take place on Wednesday 2nd December.
The initiative moves online for the first time this year as a result of the ongoing impact of Covid-19 but a record 9,000 votes were still registered across all nine categories.
A breakdown of all the finalists can be found on the Women in Meat Awards website.
With the ceremony taking place in just over a month’s time, many within the meat sector have spoken to Meat Management about how excited they are for the initiative and why it is so important for the industry.
Nick Allen, chief executive of the British Meat Processors Association (BMPA), said: “Meat Management is the central source of news and views for the British meat industry, and its wide sphere of influence means that initiatives like the Women in Meat Awards provide a good platform for diversity, innovation and change.
“I’d like to send all of the candidates the very best wishes from BMPA for the online ceremony on the 2nd December.”
"This is such a great, and worthwhile, event. It encourages people to consider the great career possibilities in our wonderful and modern industry.”
Tony Goodger of the Association of Independent Meat Suppliers (AIMS) added: “I look forward to the Women in Meat Awards, not just because I know and work with many of the finalists but because their contribution to the industry should be celebrated and I hope that their success will encourage others to make it meat (and poultry) when they are thinking of a career.”
Claire Holland of the Q Guild of Butchers said: “While it’s a shame there is no ceremony this year to reward the finalists and winners, I’m sure the team will make the online awards as special as possible. Indeed, initiatives like these are really important at raising the profile of female talent the meat industry has to offer, right from taking part, being nominated and getting the votes in. All the PR and hype around this event and others like it, keeps the message alive that we must encourage and reward the industry’s passionate and talented people.”
Richard Stevenson, technical manager at the National Craft Butchers (NCB), said: “Myself and everyone at the NCB are excited for the Women in Meat Awards. This is such a great, and worthwhile, event. It encourages people to consider the great career possibilities in our wonderful and modern industry.”
