National Federation of Meat and Food Traders (NFMFT) life hon vice president Ken Wakelin died on Wednesday 6th January following a short illness.
Ken was a member of the NFMFT for six decades, joining the federation’s executive council in 1990 and serving as president in 1997. In acknowledgement of his service, he was awarded the Freedom of the City of London.
A former anti-aircraft gunner, Ken and his wife Rosemary took over a butcher’s shop, in Wye, in 1966. The shop is currently run by their son Martyn and his wife Sarah. They have stated that they intend to continue with the business.
A service for Ken will be held at the Church of St Gregory and St Martin, Wye, Kent, on Tuesday 26th January at 12.30pm. No flowers but donations can be made to the British Heart Foundation (envelopes can be handed to undertakers on the day). For more details please contact roger@nfmft.co.uk.
