Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) has appointed John Richards as the new head of its industry development team, in a bid to strengthen its work with farmers and processors.
Trained as an agricultural economist, Richards has long experience of working in agriculture, having served as industry information executive with HCC, and having previously worked at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society.
According to HCC, the latest appointment will strengthen its work during what it described as a “crucial period when the industry faces uncertainty over the future of access to key trading markets and support payments”.
Richards commented: “HCC’s role in providing authoritative and up-to-date analysis of consumer and market trends is more needed now than ever.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge of ensuring that farmers have ready access to all the information they need to make informed business decisions as we face these challenging times.”
He also added that HCC will be looking to work with everyone in the sheep, beef and pork sector to achieve better shelf-life and on-farm efficiencies, as well as to ensure “that we have a profitable and sustainable industry in the future”.
