Retailers across the UK embraced Black Friday (25th November) by creating unique offers to draw consumers into their stores. The meat industry was no exception, with retailers and butchers offering deals on quality products.
One example this year was Muscle Food, an online food retailer promoting nutrition and healthy living. The company promoted Black Friday Week with deals each day such as Meat for the Week, a hamper containing 38 pieces of varied meat from beef steaks and chicken fillets for just £10 rather than £21.37.
Another deal the retailer offered was The Best Hamper of the Year which included everything from meatballs, to free range beef hache steaks, to chicken burgers.
Included with these hampers were free recipes for customers to use with their meats as a way of promoting the varieties of meals that the meats can be used for.
Muscle Food offered cheaper prices on some of its other meat products too, for example by selling two six ounce rump steaks for a third of their original price, and its premium 2.5kg chicken breasts for under half price.
Meanwhile, butcher Best in Bury was offering a hamper that included a 23 part selection of meat from sirloin steaks, to lamb chops, to chicken breasts and sausages.
Great British Meat Company, a family owned butchers, is another company that embraced Black Friday. It offered deals such as 40% off steaks and 43% off 5kg British chicken breast fillets.
Hazeldines Butchers made the most of Black Friday by offering a pack of four sirloin steaks for £18 and a variety selection pack for £22.
Stiltons Butchers, Tom Hixson and James Whelan Butchers, among others, also got involved in the campaign by offering their customers deals.
Supermarkets took part in Black Friday too, offering promotions across their shops, including their meat sections.
One example was Tesco, which cut the prices on various products such as whole chickens, bacon, Aberdeen Angus steak mince, and pork sausages.
Morrisons extended Black Friday by promoting 'Black Five Days', hosting a mix of meat deals on products across a five day period, such as its Serrano Ham Whole Leg, Whole Lamb Leg Roast, Gressington Whole Duck and its Best Serrano Gran Reserva.
