An online library of facts and figures about the meat industry has been launched by EBLEX and BPEX, available free to levy payers and industry stakeholders.
Meatstats, supplied by AHDB Market Intelligence, is a revival of the old Meatfax series of fact sheets formerly offered by the Meat and Livestock Commission and faxed out to subscribers, covering both UK and global figures.
The 13 documents cover data on abattoirs, global trade, national balance sheets, livestock numbers, trade and seasonality of markets, among other things.
“The Meatfax sheets were widely used in the past as a reference resource for the meat industry both here and elsewhere in the world, but demand fell as fax machines were superseded by email and, as resourcing changed, the service was put on hold,” said Stephen Howarth, of AHDB Market Intelligence.
“However, we did still periodically get requests for the data and we found them useful as a reference document so we have spent the last few months bringing them up to date. We can now offer them free online rather than through a subscription-only service.
“They will be updated as appropriate so the time series, which goes back to 1990 in some instances, will be maintained. We hope they become the go-to place for industry facts and figures and complement the other resource we already have online via the EBLEX and BPEX websites.”
