With only four weeks remaining before the meat industry’s biggest and most important awards dinner – which takes place in London on 20th May – organisers YPL Exhibitions and Events report that, as usual, the annual event is attracting much excitement and great interest from right across the UK meat trade.
Last year the Awards dinner attracted 460 guests and awarded 18 accolades to different companies, organisations and individuals, including the coveted Excellence Award, presented to a champion of the meat trade who has made an outstanding contribution to the industry.
This year’s five star black tie event is hosted by broadcaster and author Gyles Brandreth, and promises to be another memorable occasion involving businesses of all types and sizes including the winners and finalists, plus other guests who want to network at this premier annual dinner.
Dinner host
A former Oxford scholar, president of the Oxford Union and MP for the City of Chester, Gyles Brandreth’s career has ranged from being a Whip and Lord Commissioner of the Treasury in John Major’s government, to starring in his own award-winning musical revue in London’s West End.
A prolific broadcaster in programmes ranging from Just a Minute, The One Show and Wordaholics, to QI and Have I Got News for You, he is also a novelist, children’s author and biographer. Brandreth has published two volumes of diaries: Breaking the Code: Westminster Diaries and Something Sensational to Read in the Train: The Diary of a Lifetime. In addition to this he is the author of two acclaimed royal biographies.
A highly amusing personality who has been featured on This Is Your Life and Desert Island Discs, Brandreth is married to writer and publisher Michèle Brown, with whom he co-curated the exhibition of twentieth century children’s authors at the National Portrait Gallery and founded the award-winning Teddy Bear Museum, now based at the Polka Theatre in Wimbledon.
Brandreth is one of Britain’s busiest and most popular after-dinner speakers and award ceremony hosts. He has also won or been nominated for awards himself as a public speaker, novelist, children’s writer, broadcaster, political diarist, journalist and theatre producer.
Awards organiser Emma Cash comments: “We are delighted that Gyles has made time in his busy schedule to be with us on 20th May at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, and I can promise everyone a first class evening, including a few new surprises.”
