Andrew Ringrose from Broughton Astley in Leicestershire won five out of nine awards for the Beef Burger, Kofta Kebab, Pork Speciality Sausage and Traditional Kebab categories, as well as the Innovative BBQ Product award with a Mediterranean Skewer Kofta. In addition, Paul Freemantle of Bosworth’s Butchers from Cheylesmore, Coventry, won Traditional Pork Sausage and BBQ Product of the Day with Old English Sausage, while Craig Finch from Harborne, Birmingham, won the Meat Speciality Sausage award with an Aussie Lamb Sausage. Finally, Shaun Vining at Complete Meats, Axminster, Devon, was also rewarded with the Meat Speciality Burger for his Premium Steak Burger.
The competition was overseen by a panel of eight judges, with head judge and competition adjudicator John Taylor MBE praising the entrants for the “overall quality” of the contest’s 152 products.
In addition, the show included demonstrations and presentations from a number of businesses, as well as a Butchers Forum, chaired by Derbyshire butcher John Mettrick, during which attendees discussed new tips and opportunities.
