UECBV, The European Livestock and Meat Trades Union, has appointed Dr Karsten Maier as the new Secretary General of the organisation.

Dr Maier is German and graduated from the University of Hohenheim, Institute for Farm Management, specialised in agronomy and economics.

With over 25 years of professional experience in associations for industry and agriculture, UECBV says Dr Maier has an indepth knowledge on an extensive range of agricultural dossiers and the structures and workings within politics, government agencies and the scientific world, at both domestic and EU level.

Commenting on the appointment, Margaret Boanas, Vice-President of UECBV said: “Dr Maier has an excellent track record of leadership and engagement across the agribusiness sector. We are confident in his ability to build with UECBV members, EU Institutions and stakeholders new perspectives to address the challenges faced by the meat sector in Europe, such as Civil Society's expectations on food, supply security, trade globalisation and EU meat sector competitiveness, research and innovation towards a sustainable and efficient meat industry.”

Dr Maier will be replacing Mr Jean-Luc Mériaux, UECBV Secretary General since 1980.
