Tulip Ltd has revealed the future of its Tipton site is uncertain and will be entering into collective consultation with employee representatives, placing 642 roles at risk of redundancy.
As part of its on-going operational footprint optimisation review and business recovery plan, the business has proposed to transfer operations from the West Midlands site to alternative sites within its UK network.
The fresh pork manufacturing site is said to be in need of “significant investment and redevelopment,” while its location places “severe restrictions on any further development.”
In February, Tulip announced that it would also be cutting 124 jobs by closing its site in Bodmin, Cornwall, after the company said the factory had been “operating at a significant loss for several years.”
The business is keen to retain the ‘experience and skills of the Tipton team’ where possible and says transfer opportunities to alternative Tulip sites will be explored thoroughly if the closure is confirmed. Employees will also be given a number of options as part of the consultation process.
