Pork processor Pilgrim's Europe has announced proposals to close its Spurway factory in West London, which it said could result in the redundancy of 270 team members.
The processor, which boasts 39 production facilities and 27 prepared foods facilities globally, said those affected would be "supported throughout the consultation process", including "exploring other opportunities for redeployment" to other sites within Pilgrim's Europe.
Pilgrim's produces a range of prepared meals and snacking products for UK supermarkets, with brands such as Richmond, Fridge Raiders, Rollover, Walls and Mattesons all under the Pilgrim's name. Its Spurway site produces specialist snacking products.
A spokesperson for Pilgrim's Europe said: "These necessary proposals form part of the business’s ongoing review of its operational footprint to ensure sites are fully optimised, securing a sustainable future for the business and our colleagues.
"These proposals will put around 270 team members at Spurway, at all levels, at risk of redundancy and the business will shortly be entering into collective consultation with union representatives.
"As a market-leading supplier to the meals and snacking categories, Pilgrim’s Europe remains fully committed to investing in, and building on, our 30-year heritage and capability to provide best-in-class service to our customers, and high-quality food solutions to our consumers."
