Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) has appointed Scottish Bakers CEO Alan Clarke as chief executive, replacing ‘Uel Morton who will step down in July 2017, after 11 years in the position.
Clarke has been with Scottish Bakers for six years, during which the organisation saw a 22% increase of its overall membership, while he has personally overseen, amongst other things, the establishment of the first Scottish Bakers Export Group.
Before Scottish Bakers, he had been director of Lifelong Learning UK for five years and had also served for ten years as chief executive of the Sector Training Council in Northern Island.
QMS chairman Jim McLaren hailed the appointment and noted: “We look forward to welcoming Alan on board this summer. He brings with him a wealth of experience, in both the private and public sectors, and a strong skillset including governance, finance, project management, people management and IT skills.”
McLaren also thanked ‘Uel Morton for his contribution, noting that he will leave the organisation in a very strong position to move forward.
QMS runs quality assurance schemes that cover more than 90% of livestock farmed for red meat in Scotland. This assures customers in the UK and overseas that the products they purchase have come from animals that have spent their whole lives being raised under strict welfare standards.
