Entry into this year’s ‘England’s Best Burger Challenge’ has now closed with a record number of burgers being entered across the four categories: Independent Butcher, Multiple Retailer, Foodservice and Premium Quality Innovative Burgers.
The first round of judging will take place at Leatherhead Food Research on Wednesday 2nd April, when every single burger will be assessed in a blind taste-testing session. At this stage, marks equating to gold, silver and bronze status will be awarded to the highest scoring burgers.
Only the gold award winners from stage one will go through to the second and final round of judging on Wednesday 30th April, when a winning burger will be chosen in each of the four categories.
The category winning burgers will be announced at the Meat Management Awards on Wednesday 4th June, taking place at London’s prestigious Grand Connaught Rooms.
Competition organiser, Hugh Judd, foodservice project manager for EBLEX, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the number of entries received in this year’s competition. The burger market is experiencing real growth at present and demand for premium quality burgers in particular is increasing. I’m looking forward to seeing the range and quality of products that have submitted. With so many entries, judging the competition will be tough, but it means that the category winners will indeed be deserving winners of the ‘England’s Best Burger’ title.”
