Brown will work alongside president, Ian Bentley, who took office on 31st May.

He has worked for the Kepak Group, who own McIntosh Donald, for 26 years, filling a range of management roles across locations in Scotland, England and Ireland, before returning to Aberdeen four years ago to run the Portlethen business.

Brown’s early meat trade career also included stints working for John Munro in Dingwall and Buchan Meat in Turriff.

Challenging times

Commenting on his appointment, Brown said: “This is a challenging time to be involved with SAMW, given the pressures which the red meat industry is currently facing, along with virtually every other business sector.

“I’m confident, however, that the Scottish red meat sector has a positive future, based on the quality of livestock we produce in this country, much of which is grass-fed and therefore highly sustainable.”
