Butchers in Scotland are invited to demonstrate their visual flair by entering a new contest designed to showcase craftmanship and innovation.
Entrants must create a counter display of Scotch Beef PGI, Scotch Lamb PGI and Specially Selected Pork for the competition, which is open to members of the Scotch Butchers Club from the 7th to 23rd May 2021.
The winner will receive £500 and the chance to display the Championship Trophy in their shop for one year.
“Although there are already great butchery competitions in Scotland, they focus solely on individual skills and we wanted to launch something that challenges businesses as a whole, and celebrates their important place in our communities,” said Gordon Newlands, brand development manager at Quality Meat Scotland (QMS), which manages Scotch Butchers Club.
He added: “Competing against some of the best butchery businesses in Scotland is a great learning experience and provides an opportunity for everyone within the business to showcase their talent.”
The judging panel will include industry figures from England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, New Zealand and Holland. They will be looking for technical skill, product innovation, creativity, presentation of the products on display and health and safety.
Entry applications can be found on the QMS website.
