Northampton-based TMI Foods has become the only cooked bacon manufacturer in the UK to receive United States Department of Agriculture approval for its range of cooked bacon products.
The company, a UK manufacturer of cooked bacon, roasted vegetables and protein-based snacks for the food manufacturing and foodservice industries, received the accreditation which allows it to export to the United States as well as to its military and navy bases in the UK and abroad.
Ian Ritchie, TMI Foods' UK sales director, said: "We are delighted to have earned this prestigious award from USDA, which recognises that we have a state-of-the-art factory and systems enabling us to produce cooked bacon and other proteins to the very highest standards."
Two years ago, TMI Foods became the first cooked bacon company to be awarded the UK's Red Tractor accreditation after passing a stringent certification process.
"We source the best pork bellies and backs available from selected UK and European suppliers," said Ritchie. "By sourcing these leaner cuts of meat and investing in precision curing, we have been able to drive healthier options which still deliver distinctive flavours."
The company is the UK arm of Dawn Farm group of companies based in Naas, Co. Kildare, Ireland.
