Stephen’s Family Butchers Ltd in St Ives and McDowell’s Butchers in Carrickfergus have been named on the HMRC National Minimum Wage underpayment list.
It has been reported that Stephen’s Family Butchers Ltd was named because it failed to pay £3,542.90, to three workers.
Similarly, McDowell’s Butchers is reported to have failed to pay £359.40, to three workers.
According to HMRC, there has been a record number of businesses underpaying staff, with a total of 359 companies named on the list.
The National Living Wage currently stands at £7.20 per hour for people over 25 years of age, £6.95 for those aged 21 - 24, £5.55 for 18 - 20 year olds, £4.00 for 16 - 17 year olds and £3.40 for apprentices.
Business minister, Margot James, said: “Every worker in the UK is entitled to at least the national minimum or living wage and this government will ensure they get it.
That is why we have named and shamed more than 350 employers who failed to pay the legal minimum, sending the clear message to employers that minimum wage abuses will not go unpunished.”
