The Master’s Chain was presented to the WCB in 1987.

Immediately prior to a Court Meeting on Friday 3rd October, it was discovered that the Master’s Chain had been stolen.

The Chain was presented to the WCB in 1987 by Past Master Norman Poulteney, with the Company describing the theft of the Chain as a “significant loss”.

According to the WCB, internal security protocols were followed on the day of the discovery. The Company said a “thorough review” of all data and security systems had been undertaken since the theft in order to assist the City of London Police with their investigation.

The Worshipful Company of Butchers, which is ranked 24th in order of precedence and is one of the oldest of the 113 City of London Livery Companies, can trace its roots back to 975 AD.
