The Institute of Meat (IoM) and Worshipful Company of Butchers (WCB) have launched the nominations process ahead of the annual luncheon and awards on Thursday 24th February 2022.

Award winners from 2020 Prize-giving at Butchers’ Hall, London.

The annual prize-giving event has been running for over 25 years and has rewarded the achievements of over 1,000 members of the meat industry since its inception. The awards are set to take place on Thursday 24th February 2022 at the Butchers’ Hall, London.

The prize-giving is an opportunity for talented apprentices across the industry to be recognised for their efforts.

With 12 categories to choose from there’s opportunity for individuals and companies to win. Individual winners will take home a cheque for £250, a framed certificate and a year’s honorary membership of the Institute of Meat. In addition, the overall winner receives a cheque for £500.

The categories next year include:

  • Best Retail Butchery Apprentice
  • Best Independent Retailer Meat Apprentice
  • Best Multiple Retailer Butchery Apprentice
  • Best Meat Processing Apprentice

The final list of categories will be announced in due course.

Commenting on the awards, Keith Fisher, chief executive of the IoM and a fourth generation Master Butcher, said: “The prize-giving is a firm fixture in the meat and poultry industry calendar, and the positive feedback from the winners is always a delight to hear. We are committed to inspiring young people to join our industry and rewarding excellence where we see it.”

Meat Management magazine is a major sponsor of the event, having supported the initiative for many years. Publisher Graham Yandell added: “As sponsor of the Champion Meat Apprentice of the Year category we are delighted to be involved again with this important initiative. There is a wealth of young talent that needs to be encouraged right across our industry sectors and I urge everyone to get involved for the 2022 IoM / WCB awards.”
