Top quality meat products entered into FMT Food Awards

The FMT Food Industry Awards product judging at Harper Adams Regional Food Academy is taking place this week and the judges have reported an abundance of high quality meat products.

The meat industry was invited to submit products into multiple categories, including: Best Red Meat Product, Best Poultry Product, Best Frozen Product, New Product Development and Best Free From Product.

After the first day of judging, the panel had already reviewed everything from pâtés and white pudding through to roasting joints and steaks.

Head judge Keith Fisher, CEO of the Institute of Meat, commented: “The degree of preparation that people have gone to with their products to ensure they’re 100% edible with little or no waste has been impressive. We’ve also seen different flavour profiles coming through this year. People are experimenting with flavours we haven’t seen much from before and are using them in interesting and innovative ways.”

Meat Management editor and fellow judge, Emily Ansell Elfer, added: “Each year I continue to be impressed by the standard of the entries. The awards really do offer a benchmark for the food industry – including the meat sector. The judging team has seen growth in participation from many leading manufacturers, and the variety of meat products coming through – from charcuterie to roasting joints – is pleasing to see.”

The awards are hosted by Food Management Today magazine and the countdown to the prestigious ceremony and industry lunch has begun.

The lunch will be hosted by celebrity chef John Torode of MasterChef fame. He will be joined by speaker Robbie Glen. The venue for the occasion will be the five star Royal Garden Hotel, London, on 31st January 2019.
