Corry’s Butchers is Overall Champion at Q Guild Smithfield Awards

Corry’s Butchers in Bramhall, Cheshire was crowned the overall champion at this year’s Q Guild Smithfield Awards for its winning product, Porchetta.

Neil and Jan Corry were presented with their trophy by broadcaster and food critic, Jay Rayner at the Awards ceremony, staged in the heart of London at Butchers’ Hall.

Jan told Meat Management: “This is the very first time we’ve entered any competition and to win the Pork Category and then hear our name called again as Overall Champion is just fantastic! I think there may well be some champagne opened on the train home!”

Q Guild chairman, Brindon Addy said: ”Our judges felt that the standard of entries this year was amongst the best they had seen for some considerable time.” Vice-chairman, Philip Cranston added: “There were 365 entries this year and the innovation and quality was first class.” Overall 46 Q Guild butchers were awarded Gold at this year’s award, which is a National Product Evaluation.

Addressing the retailers attending the lunch and award ceremony, Jay Rayner said that with many major concerns about food security and origin of food: “Butchers had a real opportunity to shine as they would be in a position to pass on their valuable knowledge and assurance that the meat they were providing was of the very best quality.”

Best Summer BBQ Product: Patricks of Camelon

Best Christmas Product: Dennis of Bexley

Best Scotch Beef Product: Patricks of Camelon

Best Pork Product: Corry’s Butchers

Best Lamb Product: C. Johnson & Son of Upminster

Best English Product: Robinsons Butchers & Delicatessen
