Essentia Protein Solutions marks golden anniversary

West Midlands based ingredients specialist Essentia Protein Solutions has eyes on future markets as it celebrates 50 years at its Tipton manufacturing base.

Staff at Essentia Protein Solutions celebrate 50 years in Tipton.

Originally founded in 1969 as a manufacturer of pork scratchings, the Ramsay Road company has evolved and since 2015 has been known as Essentia Protein Solutions.

Today Essentia is a global business specialising in the production of animal proteins for the food industry.

Owned by the US based Lauridsen Group Incorporated (LGI), Essentia brings customers access to a large range of animal protein solutions.

Employing 54 staff, it is the only specialist protein factory within the group located in the UK.

Best known for its DRINDE, ScanPro and ProBase brand encompassing stocks, broths and premium fats, Essentia has expanded more recently with new products such as the blood derived protein APro.

Now Essentia is poised to enter new markets, explained Tom Cooke, Essentia’s sales director UK & Ireland: “The firm’s continued success has been predominantly meat focussed.  Over the last few years, our on-site warehousing capacity has expanded with the purchase of several surrounding business units.

“We’re very proud that our Tipton site continues to achieve the highest rating as a BRC AA grade site and it holds a BQAP (British Quality Assured Pork) assurance.

“Now we’re looking to explore new markets to help customers tap into ever growing consumer trends in nutrition, diet, health and wellbeing.”

Cooke added: “Recently, Essentia was accredited as a Living Wage employer in recognition of how much staff are valued.

“Our staff are the lifeblood of our business, over half of the staff have been with us for over ten years. Their commitment to our success is extremely important to us.

“We are certainly a very different looking business to 50 years ago, we’re very proud of our progress and we look forward to the future.”
