Meat trade body Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) is looking to recruit new members to its Sustainable Innovation and Research Working Group.

HCC has announced that it is looking to recruit up to 10 members for its new Sustainable Innovation and Research Working Group, which will aim to guide HCC on the areas of innovation, research and development relating to the overarching sustainability of Welsh red meat production, encompassing all aspects of sustainable red meat production.

HCC’s head of sustainability and future policy, Rachael Madeley-Davies, explained: “This new Working Group, will be really important to HCC’s work, with sustainability, efficiency and innovation all high on HCC’s and the wider agri-food sector’s agenda.”

The trade body is looking for individuals with relevant professional expertise and knowledge, as well as an understanding of the agricultural and red meat production sectors in Wales.

Madeley-Davies said: “We recognise the importance of having diverse skills, knowledge and experience in the Working Group, so whilst our focus will be on the red meat sector in Wales, we welcome applications from individuals with relevant experience from outside of Wales also.

“Sustainable innovation and research hold the key to driving efficiency and profitability for farmers and the sector as a whole, both in a financial and environmental sense. I would warmly encourage anyone who feels they can contribute to this area of work and discussion to apply.”

The application window is open until Friday 17th November at 5pm.

HHC’s “Uniquely Welsh” campaign was promoted in an advert in Waterloo Station.

Welsh beef and lamb marketing to remain strong

Following a summer of marketing activity, HCC has said it will keep boosting the PGI Welsh beef and Welsh lamb brands on TV and other outlets, as well as in UK retailers and with foodservice companies.

“As announced at the Royal Welsh Show, we’ve taken on a wide-ranging, multi-media campaign to support our sustainability-led, farmer-hero, new marketing approach,” said Laura Pickup, HCC’s head of strategic marketing and connections. “The Welsh Lamb TV commercial has been running on ITV Wales, S4C and Sky Adsmart in other key targeted locations across the UK.

“But that’s not all – we are also doing a lot of work with multiple retailers to link our key marketing messages, the “Uniquely Welsh. Experts In Their Field” campaign all about Welsh Lamb sustainability credentials, its great taste and recipe versatility in store.”

Pickup concluded: “You can rest assured that the rest of the autumn and the run up to Christmas will be just as busy as we everything we can to put Welsh lamb and Welsh beef and the brilliant farmers who produce it at the forefront of consumer attention.”
