Last call for butchers to enter National Meat Products Competition
• Deadline: 19th May to enter.
• Competition Judging: 24th May.
• Open to all retail butchers and small manufacturers.
One of Britain’s most important and prestigious annual competitions is scheduled to take place next week on 24th May.
The National Federation of Meat & Food Traders (NFMFT) is reminding all butchers that there is still time to enter the National Meat Products Competition that will take place at Meatup, located in ArenaMK, Milton Keynes. The popular competition will be a central feature of this year’s national trade exhibition for the industry.
Winners of the 22 categories, as well as the overall supreme champions, can expect a major boost to business, so entering can mean the chance of a profitable payoff and great PR for those who take the prizes.
Open to members and non-members of the Federation, the event will showcase the talents and creativity of butchers and producers nationwide, with categories ranging from sausages, bacon, burgers and charcuterie through to pasties, pies, scotch eggs and ready meals.
This year will also see the introduction of the Young Sausage Maker award, with certificates and trophies being awarded to all category winners, including the Supreme Product Champion and Supreme Sausage Champion awards.
The products will be judged live on 24th May in Milton Keynes by a team of industry experts, and certificates of Gold, Silver and Bronze will be awarded for all products achieving the required standard.
NFMFT’s marketing manager, Jayne Cottrell, commented: “We urge butchers everywhere to get involved in the NFMFT National Meat Products Competition. “It’s a great opportunity to show what you can do and pick up valuable PR.”
Show organiser for Meatup, Emma Cash added: “The NFMFT competitions play a big part in the atmosphere at Meatup and really add a special ingredient to what is a unique event in the UK meat trade calendar. We are looking forward to 2 days where visitors can keep in the vanguard of industry developments, enjoy topical seminars and experience fantastic craft competitions, including the Premier Young Butcher Competition on the second day 25th May.
“There is always a last minute surge of butchers entering the product competitions and time is still available to be involved. But the message is don’t delay – we want to see as many great products as possible at Meatup this year.”
