Meat Awards judging week hailed as great success

“It has been another superb week,” according to Keith Fisher, head judge of the team evaluating products entered for this year’s Meat Management Meat Industry Awards, with judging taking centre stage at the Regional Food Academy in Shropshire over the last few days.

Once again the general consensus was that the standard of entries and the quality was excellent, as judges evaluated all the key aspects covering a vast array of products from across the trade.

As part of the judging process, handling, cooking and tasting is a major logistical undertaking to be finished before products are ranked and scored, using a range of consistent pre-set criteria.

Fisher added: “We have seen a substantial and diverse entry of products and as usual they did not disappoint. Despite the challenges, this really is an exciting time for the industry and it is always a pleasure to see trends, innovation and packaging developments when judging, and to be impressed by the sheer brilliance of what our industry can do.”

Publisher of Meat Management magazine, Graham Yandell added: “The results will be revealed later this year at the popular presentation ceremony scheduled for 9th September at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole. It is Britain’s biggest event of its type for the meat industry and we are looking forward to it after such a challenging period, when we want to bring together guests and our awards partners to celebrate in style.

“Our online events over the last year have been brilliant and very popular, but I know there is a big appetite for a physical ceremony and we are planning to deliver to our usual high standard at Birmingham if all goes to plan.”

Sharon Yandell, the lead organiser for the MM Meat Industry Awards concluded: “Once again I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to enter. With pressure on staffing for many companies it is not always easy to find the time, but we have seen a fabulous range of products. It’s been hard work for our team but also a very enjoyable week here at Harper Adams University.

“We are really looking forward to the awards ceremony taking place on 9th September and I recommend an early visit to the website to reserve tables and tickets.”
