It is being reported widely in Ireland that the Dawn Meats is in the process of acquiring lamb processor, Kildare Chilling.
Kildare is one of the main sheep processors in Ireland with its plants having capacity to slaughter 500,000 lambs and 120,000 cattle a year. It has two main brands, Kildara Farm, a selection of retail ready vac-packed joints and Heritage Town, which comprises cuts from its partner farmers using traditional farming methods.
The deal is yet to be formally announced but the Irish press reports that it will be imminent.
Given the size of the business the deal will have to go through Competition and Consumer Protection checks.
