Plans are progressing well for UK Sausage Week, with great interest being shown from both butchers and sausage manufacturers.

BIG BREK

The official UK Sausage Week website recently went live, with the inclusion of a simple form allowing retailers and manufacturers to enter their sausages for the chance to win a UK Sausage Week award.

Entry is free and each company may enter a maximum of four different sausages (two sausages into each of the two categories: Traditional and Innovative.)

The traditional category can include regional specialities such as Cumberland, Lincolnshire and Newmarket. Meanwhile, for the innovative category, the judges are looking for creative and inspirational products using a diverse range of ingredients – the more unusual, the better!

All products will be put to the test by a panel of industry experts, headed-up by Institute of Meat CEO Keith Fisher, in September. The winners, including the Supreme UK Champion, will be unveiled by celebrity ambassador Eric Knowles at the UK Sausage Week Celebration lunch at Plaisterers’ Hall, London.

Recipes

Any sausage-makers and retailers with interesting recipes up their sleeves are also invited to share their culinary expertise as part of UK Sausage Week. The best dishes will be published in the pages of Meat Management magazine as well as online during UK Sausage Week itself.

Meat Management editor Emily Ansell Elfer said: “We plan to celebrate all things sausages in our print and online media both in the run-up-to and during UK Sausage Week. I hope we can inspire butchers, manufacturers and consumers alike throughout the campaign with some delicious recipes and get the Great British public into their kitchens cooking up a storm!

“As well as recipes, we welcome others ideas from industry for the campaign. We are looking to run a Sausage Week of great value to the sector so the more input we have from industry itself the better.”
