The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is set to host a webinar covering the risks of bird flu in beef and dairy.
The webinar, title ‘Beefing up safety: Understanding the risks of avian flu in dairy and beef’, will be held on Wednesday 12th March 2025 from 1pm to 2pm.
FSA’s Food for Thought team will work with FSA’s Risk Assessment Unit to explore the risks of avian influenza in beef and dairy, as FSA highlighted that the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza A (H5N1) clade 2.3.4.4b genotype B3.13 has been detected in dairy cattle across the United States.
The seminar will explore the risk assessments conducted by FSA on the potential impact of HPAI H5N1 strain B3.13 on UK consumers.
The assessments will cover US dairy and beef products, as well as hypothetical bird flu scenarios in UK beef and UK dairy sectors.
Speaking at the seminar will be FSA’s senior risk assessor Lauren Adams, senior microbiological risk assessor Lorcan Browne, and senior risk assessor Johanna Jackson.
The seminar will be held via Microsoft Teams, and a recording will be published to the FSA Youtube channel after it has concluded.
