In preparation for UK Sausage week (28th October to 3rd November) over 500 sausages were evaluated by a team of judges this week and winners across 14 categories have now been decided.
However, participants will have to wait until the celebration lunch and awards ceremony on 28th October at London’s Butchers' Hall, to find out who has taken the top spots – including the UK Supreme Sausage Champion.Editor of Meat Management magazine, who organise UK Sausage Week, Pam Brook said: “Yet again we have seen a brilliant range of sausages that does our industry proud. The competition is the biggest in the UK and there is no shortage of great entries when it comes to innovation and quality.”The judges assessed all sausages in their raw and cooked state, with cooking undertaken by home economists on site at the test kitchens located at the Regional Food Academy, Harper Adams University in Shropshire.There are 14 categories for the competition as follows:
- UK Supreme Sausage Award
- England: North
- England: North East
- England North West
- England West Midlands
- England East Midlands
- England South East
- England South West
- Scotland
- N. Ireland
- Wales
- Best Foodservice Sausage
- Best Supermarket / Multiple Retailer Sausage
- Best Manufacturer Own Brand Sausage
Head judge Keith Fisher, the CEO of the Institute of Meat summed up: “Entries this year have been outstanding. My thanks to our judging team who have done a brilliant job. We now have the results and there are some very worthy winners. I am looking forward to the celebration lunch on 28th October when all will be revealed.”
