Katie Doherty is set to succeed Liz Murphy as CEO of the International Meat Trade Association (IMTA) after being promoted from the role of policy director.
Katie Doherty has been working with IMTA for some time.
The appointment was announced by chairman Margaret Boanas at the association’s recent board meeting.
The announcement also follows news of Murphy’s retirement which will be at the end of March 2019.
Doherty said: “I am very excited to be taking on the role of CEO of IMTA from the beginning of April next year. Liz Murphy has been an excellent mentor in the six years since I joined IMTA. I have a brilliant team at IMTA which has been expanded in order to help members with Brexit but also the day to day.”
Murphy added: “It is critical that we maintain the day to day service to our members while dealing with the workload of Brexit.”
IMTA’s members include more than 60 importers, exporters and wholesalers as well as associate members from relevant sectors.
IMTA represents its membership at meetings with the European Commission and is an active member of UECBV (European Livestock and Meat Trading Union) along with having regular meetings with Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs), RPA (Rural Payments Agency) and FSA (Food Standards Agency).
The IMTA secretariat has also expanded over the summer by employing two new graduates.
