Lytham Foods has recalled its chicken tikka sandwiches due to the possible presence of salmonella.
The precautionary measure has been taken by the company due to the risk of salmonella in the tikka powder ingredient used to manufacture the product.
According to the Food Standards Agency, it is understood that the supplier of the tikka powder, Catermix, has also manufactured the ingredient in unhygienic conditions and has failed to comply with food hygiene regulations.
This follows the recall made by Easy Eats UK Ltd for the same concern.
The recall specifically refers to Lytham Foods chicken tikka sandwiches with a use-by date of 18th February 2016.
Point-of-sale recall notices have been displayed in stores selling the product.
In its statement Lytham Foods said: “During routine testing we have detected a serious microbiological problem in an ingredients used in our chicken tikka products. Because of potential health concerns customers should not consume the affected products”.
The product can be returned to stores for a full refund.
No other varieties are affected by this recall.
