Product judging for this year’s MM Meat Industry Awards has started in earnest this week at the Regional Food Academy test kitchens, based at Harper Adams University in Shropshire.
With nearly 1,000 products to get through, judges and home economists are in for a busy few days as the products entered, covering ten categories, are evaluated based on the exacting criteria used every year.
Managing Editor & Publisher of Meat Management magazine Graham Yandell said: “This is a really interesting part of the process. We get to evaluate hundreds of outstanding products and, as usual, the bar is set high. The Meat Management Meat Industry Awards is the top accolade everyone wants to win in our food sector and we are really delighted with the level of participation again this year.”
Chief judge and CEO of the Institute of Meat Keith Fisher was enthusiastic about the standard of products in the mix: “As always, the Meat Management Awards set a benchmark for products entered, coming in from a myriad of businesses. These arrive from every corner of the meat industry.
“As is usual the standards are very high and competition is stiff, so the eventual winners really can feel that their products are top drawer and something to shout about. We judge to exacting and consistent standards, and once again we have a brilliant few days in prospect.”
Awards organiser Emma Cash added that whilst not a record, the volume of entries has been excellent, the second highest ever. “More importantly we have a really interesting range of products this year setting very high standards, and I am already looking forward to the Awards ceremony and dinner on 27th June when the winners, finalists and highly commended products will be revealed.”
