This year's City Meat Lecture, organised by The Worshipful Company of Butchers will be presented by Professor David Hughes, on Thursday 23rd November at Butchers' Hall.
Sponsored by Pilgrim's UK the substance of the lecture is Postive Directions for the British Meat Industry in the next 5-10 years and will look at what the future holds for industry, whether the tide is turning on the negative narrative around meat and what the sector can do to accelerate that with positive stories.
Joining Professor Hughes for a panel debate and audience Q&A following the lecture will be Katharine Haenelt and Harriet Wilson.
Katharine has in-depth knowledge and a wealth of hands-on experience of the issues that the meat industry faces, having worked as fresh trading director with Marks & Spencer and sales and marketing director at ABP UK and now as UK managing director of the OSI Group.
Currently she oversees all the OSI UK facilities and her role also means she is responsible for creating and executing comprehensive business plans and strategies to continue OSI's growth trajectory and customer diversification in its international division.
Harriet Wilson won the first Meat Business Women 'One to Watch Award' in 2018 and was part of the UK&I Committee for three years. She joined Meat Business Women as partnerships director in August 2023.
Her career so far has involved head of agriculture and senior CSR roles for McDonald's and retailers Aldi and Co-op Food. She graduated from Harper Adams University in 2014 and during her studies was a columnist for Farmers' Weekly. Harriet has a passion for agriculture and previously sat on the Red Tractor Board for Beef and Lamb standards.
